City Business Library: helping your fashion dreams become reality

Even just hearing the word ‘business’ is enough to send shudders down the spines of most start-up fashion designers. The reality is, and I’m sure you already know this, you can have a beautiful and desirable product but it won’t go anywhere if you can’t run a business properly. Being a fashion entrepreneur is about more than multi-tasking, it’s about taking on every job role required to run a business: Head Designer, Production Manager, Accountant, Sales Manager, Press Manager, E-commerce Manager… the list isn’t exhaustible.

The Resource List recently attended a very useful event designed to face those fears head on titled ‘The Business of Fashion’ at the City Business Library in London. There were some familiar names speaking at the event, like Fashion Capital, which told us we were in the right place but we were surprised to find ourselves in the heart of the financial district, an area rarely frequented by poor but fabulous fashion types. However, they were practically pleading with the budding entrepreneurs in the audience to come more often and use the library.

Interview ch'i. Or, how to make an impression.

Please excuse my bad language (and if bad language is something you find offensive you may not want to click on this link) but I just pissed myself laughing at this interview in The Skinny from new journo Fred Fletch, and by the sound of it so did his subject - the legendary David Hasselhoff. Now, Fred's technique may not seem 100% professional, but if you can make the Hoff laugh this hard you must be doing something right. Wanna-be writers all take note - this is certainly one way to make an impression. And, in any case, you've been working hard, you probably deserve a laugh...
